2 teens charged with firing paintballs at people, cars

Cameron-J.-Ward.jpg             A traffic stop led to the arrest of four people Saturday night, two of whom state police say have been shooting paintballs at people and cars in the Wilmington area during the past three weeks.
Police say troopers have been investigating paintball shootings at people, buildings and vehicles, including an ambulance, which mostly occur on Friday and Saturday nights.
The most recent shooting occurred at about 11 p.m. Friday, when a person reported being hit in the leg and multiple vehicles said they were shot at along Concord Pike, police said. Another man reported a similar incident on Naamans Road when he was driving his vehicle. A paintball hit his window and while attempting to get the license plate on the vehicle, he was run off the road, police said.
The incident caused damage to the man's car but he told police the vehicle looked familiar and was possibly seen on social media, police said. A further search online led police to identify the car as a 2008 Maroon Mercury Sable.
The following night, troopers spotted the Sable traveling on Naamans Road and were able to stop it after the vehicle was seen driving in an unsafe manner, police said.
When police made contact, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana and searched the car, leading to the discovery of 6.2 grams of marijuana, police said. They also identified two 18-year-old men, Cameron Ward and Robert Rosa, both of Claymont, as suspects in the paintball shootings.
Ward was officially charged with reckless endangering, conspiracy, possession of marijuana, failure to signal and failure to have insurance identification in his possession. He was released on $2,000 unsecured bail.
Rosa was charged with reckless endangering, conspiracy and possession of marijuana. He was also released on $2,000 unsecured bail.
Geramiah Y. Shepherd, 18, of Wilmington, and another 17-year-old passenger from Wilmington were issued a citation for possession of marijuana.
